Chapter One
“Father, father, why has thou forsaken me” is what Cynthia cried to herself when her Dad fell into a vegetative coma, leaving her as a ward of a cold and unloving mother.

The first chapter explores the anguish of a teenager, whom can not believe her hero, her father may never return to her whole.  Cynthia begs God to no avail, to find peace for herself and healing for her Dad. Finding neither, she throws herself in to work, school, and the mundane – a routine she kept until she almost drowned.  Marooned as the tide carried her away, Cynthia enjoyed the exuberant feeling of floating on a cloud of peace. That peace was suddenly interrupted by a splash of water and a call from a distant shore, “Are you okay out there? Do you need any help?”

Manny braved the elements to rescue Cynthia when she didn’t even know she was in danger. She fought the urge to surrender but eventually realized that total surrender was the only way to save her life.  She learned after her salvation from the salty sea that this young man who pulled her to safety was more than just a rescuer – he would eventually become her new best friend.
