Prologue The prologue is set in the midst of a terrible family argument. Thomas Wilson is desperately trying to make Clareece Wilson see that Cynthia Wilson, their natural daughter, is no threat to their marital relationship. Clareece all but admits that she is jealous of Tom and Cynthia’s buddyship. Cynthia is hiding in the home’s attic praying that this scene, repeated so many times, will just end. Cynthia overhears her Mom accuse her Dad of unthinkable things that escalate the loud argument over her, into a near fight. Cynthia retreats to her secret place by the water to find peace. When Tom discovers that Cynthia has left home, he searches frantically for her and ends up in an automobile accident that changes all of their lives forever.. |
