Chapter
Three How
does one reconcile what one knows is destructive, but want it never the
less? We’ve all heard of
that so-called ‘little voice’ that speaks to us. Some call it our
conscious, some call it our sense of guilt. I call it the Inner Eye and it
never lies. Cynthia
worked so hard to achieve the school’s highest award and she was in line
to receive it before the entire student body. But something happened and
she didn’t. Crushed, she
turned to Manny who turned her anger and fear back on herself.
Manny forced her to take an introspective look at something few of
us will admit to – motive. Cynthia soon discovered that motive is often
more important than the goal and along the way to that new knowledge,
learned something she had learned earlier in life but deliberately chose
to forget. In
time, Cynthia would discover that her Inner Eye was her best ally and that
God’s participation is the focus of that eye would propel her to heights
she had never dreamed of without the stench of pride and
self-aggrandizement. |
